The words affect and effect sound similar but they are actually two different words with different meanings. Still, it is easy to get them confused and write the wrong one down on accident.
‘Affect’ means to influence or produce a change in something. It is used as a verb (action word) in a sentence. For example;
Rainfall will affect how much your grass will grow.
Not wearing your glasses will affect how well you can see at night.
The word ‘effect’, on the other hand, refers to a result. ‘Effect’ is commonly used as a noun in a sentence. For example:
The effect of long term exposure to loud music is deafness.
I don’t know what the effect will be.
